The 2nd Edition of our Annual Short Story Contest presents a new opportunity for emerging authors looking for opportunities to grow in this complex industry. SOOP’s contest is a free-entry writing competition that rewards cash honorariums and publishing contracts to the best short story submissions across our 25 categories, including Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Poetry.
The following ranking contains the Top 20 Short Story Ideas that haven’t qualified for publication yet. Dozens of writers have submitted their stories this year, but each Short Story Idea needs 50 votes to become eligible for prizes. Voting for one of these stories will automatically enter you in our weekly drawing to win a Free Book. Increase your chances of winning and vote for your favorite Short Story Ideas today!
How Do I Make the Top 20?
Simply! Gather as many votes as you can!Â
It might sound like too much work, but before you rethink our voting strategy, read this blog about the basic concepts of our Voting Program. Keep tabs in your inbox since the SOOP team will reach out with weekly tips to help you drive more votes.

Work with SOOP
Everyone at SOOP will help you work towards success.
When you submit your Book Idea, you can choose one of two ways to reach your publishing goal: Free or Premium Levels. At each stage of the voting process, SOOP’s Free Level assigns homework, which helps you not only make substantial progress in marketing your work, but also helps you develop the best story possible. SOOP manages your homework in phases and returns your homework on a pass/fail basis.
SOOP’s Premium Level also assigns homework with a required 85% passing grade, ensuring you understand the curriculum before proceeding. In addition to a higher standard for your homework, our panel of experts provides personalized feedback, arming you with more information and allowing you to adjust the course when necessary.
