What is Author-Driven Publishing?

SOOP’s Author-Driven Publishing Model is revolutionary. It combines the best elements of both traditional and self-publishing, while taking advantage of social media and crowdsourcing, to educate and empower authors to gradually master the “3 P’s” of publishing: Product, Platform, and Promotion.

As a result, authors come to understand the process of landing a publishing contract and the chances of earning much higher royalties than traditional publishing.

Crowdsourcing Model

Our Author-Drive Publishing Model is enhanced with an interactive voting program.

It helps to develop a more genuine bond with prospective readers by taking into account the votes given, representing a spark of curiosity to know more about the stories in progress. Authors can reap the benefits of this program to gather supporters, get an understanding of their expectations and aim for higher targets according to how they fare.

Becoming a published author with SOOP breaks down into three phases of activities. Each step sets achievable milestones by gathering votes for your idea and completing assignments along the way, which may result in free benefits, guidance, and plenty of opportunities!

The 3 Phases

Product (0 to 1,000 votes)

It covers primary education on your product and exciting activities such as guest blogging on our website, receiving a free manuscript assessment, and developing a social media strategy.

After gathering 1,000 votes and completing all assignments, SOOP will offer you a customized publishing contract. While the details of each contract may vary and are confidential, we cover all production costs, including editing, proofreading, book design, and global distribution on six continents. While we do not typically pay any advances, even first-time Authors can expect up to a 50% royalty.

Platform (1,001 to 2,000 votes)

After signing your contract, you continue increasing your vote count to grow your platform.

With the assistance of publishing professionals at SOOP, you have to opportunity to engage in the parts of the publishing process that most authors love the most, like developing a blog content strategy with input from a SOOP professional and creating the cover proposals with your feedback. All of these activities ultimately lead to the production of a Galley Version, an advanced copy of your book, the Product, and a Platform that the Author and SOOP can use to get reviews and other forms of attention from influencers and media outlets to build momentum upon launch.

Promotion (+2,000 votes)

It’s all about getting tons of exposure to promote your book!

Some of our promotional opportunities include SEO, social media, and email marketing campaigns for your fans, close supporters, and the growing community of SOOP readers through our monthly newsletter. These promotional activities build up to a fantastic book launch with the support of SOOP’s Marketing team.

From Writer to Author

Follow these simple steps to progress from submission to publication with SOOP:

Review our Submission Guidelines.
If your work is within the accepted genres, submit your Short Story or Book idea.
SOOP publishes your idea on our website (free of charge) — take a look at some of our current ideas here.
Once your idea is live on our website, you can work to obtain votes for your story idea from your fans, supporters and general public.
As you work toward 1,000 votes — and contract eligibility — you will receive free guidance and benefits and complete related check-in activities.

Unlike traditional commercial publishing, SOOP Authors control the process and decisions at each step of the journey to ensure the fair distribution of risk and reward to all parties. Authors who submit their ideas to SOOP can walk away at any time before signing a contract, and they will take the benefits and publicity they’ve earned with them.

Becoming a Certified Professional Author

Use of our Platform to pursue a publishing contract with SOOP (or elsewhere) is free – and you do not need to enroll in the Certified Professional Author Program. The main difference between the free version and the Certification Program is the hands-on feedback and grading of each homework assignment, with additional benefits and marketing perks.
