‘My Story’ by Bill Olson

• German mother (in Germany) in 1954 has two children (1 & 5) is pregnant with another and is unmarried
• The two children are taken from her and put into an orphanage
• Younger child (me) is adopted (by American military family) while older (my sister) is not
• Mother steals older child from orphanage and goes into hiding for 12 year under assumed name
• Mother come out of hiding only because daughter wants to get married and has no papers
• Adopted son ends up playing professional basketball only 45 minutes from where they live (not in contact with them or even know they exist)
• National German newspaper hears story and prints full page story (no permission given … creates some interesting one offs)
• Adopted son locates mother along with older sister, brother and younger sister (42 years later)
• Sisters come to America for first time to give brother 42 years of birthday presents
• Adopted sons tooth shows up at younger sisters neighbor 16 years after he finishes playing basketball (have to hear details on this one … talk about 6 degrees of separation)
