‘The River Runs Red’ by Munro Bruce

About a family that has moved to land just outside the small mountain town of Red River. With vast acreage they have a farm, but take on the challenges of Indians, thieves, and crooked town folk. Soon, everything starts to go wrong, as the family is attacked by indians, and some members are killed. This leaves the father, and two of his 4 children alive, but the wife and daughter die. The first part of the book occurs in through the writer’s eyes, then the second half through the main charater’s eyes. Eventually family secrets about the father get out, and the two sons grow older and one becomes a town Deputy Shariff, and the other joins his father in a band of thieves trying to get the land that has been stolen from them by wealthy businessmen. Once the secret escapes, and the oldest son comes to terms with his abusive childhood, he sets out to destroy his father’s gang and his father, with a twisted ending. Filled with trickery, thievery, business deallings, saloons, gambling, drinking, sex and more, this book will please both the female and the male reader at once. Much humor through out the story as well.
