#Marketing Mondays: Don’t Get Discouraged!

Discouraging

Have you ever felt discouraged when writing? Well, this is normal for all writers at some point in their career. There are ways to help counteract this feeling. You have to make yourself see the good in what you have already accomplished. Remember only you can make yourself feel the way that you feel when you are discouraged. You are the only one that can change the way that you feel when you get a rejection or a bad review. Don’t let it get to you, use it as a learning experience and move on. This will only help you become the writer you want to be.

There are ways to help you create a way to cope with the feelings and what you can do to make things easier for you to deal with being discouraged. If you follow these ideas, it may help you think better about your work and why things are going the way that they are. You can help create a safe space in your mind that cushions you from being discouraged even though you may be getting bad reviews, rejection letters, or the story is going slowly. Never should you feel like this is not worth it to you.

There are a few ways to help you to get out of a slump or being discouraged. One of the best things that you can do is walk away from the present project and possibly start another project or dust off an old project and work on that. You can always come back to the original project when you have cooled down and forgot about what was going on in the first place. One of your old projects could be the thing that gets you out of your slump and possibly cause you to come up with something better for your current project.

Another way to help with discouragement is to revisit why it is you are writing and your previous successes. Reviewing what you have previously accomplished will help you to feel better about yourself. This will give you a better sense of what is the problem with your original work. You can also contact other people who write and have them look at your work and to see if they can help you find what is wrong with your work, or what it is causing you to feel like you are being discouraged.

You should never feel like you are in this position because you are not doing your best. You are in this situation because your time has not come yet, or you need to walk away from the project that is causing such anguish. Believe me, I have been there, and it doesn’t feel very good. You have to push through it and make it a learning experience that will help you in the future. You should continue to work on something that you sink your heart and soul into. Sometimes you just have to walk away and regroup to make it work in the way you want it to.
