‘The Shadow Path’ by E. G. Jensen

Premise:

A spoiled young Manhattanite shrinks down to two inches tall, and is drawn into a deadly conflict between two mysterious races of creatures that live under the streets of present day New York.

Oliver Archer — rich, handsome, and popular, comes in contact with a molecular black hole and shrinks down to two inches tall. He is forced out of his glittering life and disappears into the New York City Underground.

The Shadow Path begins as the Alfar, elfish beings who live in present day Manhattan, have rescued Oliver from the Humouse, a race of half-human mice.

Oliver, previously wounded by a Humouse, finds himself in the Alfar citadel, Anthelion, located under Fort Tryon in Northern Manhattan, not for from the Cloisters. It is in the Alfar healing rooms that Oliver meets Phlox, an Alfar female who is assigned to help him integrate into Alfar society. Oliver is introduced to the Alfar King and Queen. They inform him that they have determined that Oliver is immune to the effects of the Microscopic Militarized Nanites that are being used by the Humouse to threaten humanity. For this reason it is vital that Oliver help the Alfar to defeat the Humouse and destroy the Nanites. Oliver succeeds after nearly being devoured by a planet-sized alien, 80,000 light years from earth.
