There is a farm where most of the animals are friendly with each other. Bessie the sheep and her lamb Yesu (his name is Swahili for Jesus and means Savior) like to help the others, including Harold the pig, who is nice, and Frederick the horse, who is proud. Every year the farmer chooses one of the animals for the family to eat at Christmas. This year is different from the others because it is the year when the kind and loving Yesu understands that he is a special lamb, so he offers himself to the farmer to save his friends. What do they think of Yesu’s sacrifice? How do they react to it? Author Jon Michael Lawrence and celebrated illustrator David Harston team up for this beautifully illustrated children’s picture book with a simple but powerful message.

In The Lamb of Life, the actions of Yesu the lamb, who shows everyone what true love looks like, tell the story of Jesus, who paid the price for all humans when he came to earth and died on a cross for our sins, in an accessible way to their toddlers and young children. John Michael is the son of missionaries and has spent most of his life in the South American city of Bogota, Columbia. He works primarily as an English teacher, but writes children’s books to teach young people important morals and values, and hopes to impact and bless the lives of many children around the world. Other similar books by him include Waverly the Insecure Palm Tree, Hilbert’s Bravery, Charlie’s Good Deeds, Family Matters, Amado’s New Life, and The Greatness of God.

The Lamb Of Life by Jon Michael Lawrence is a simple book with a powerful message for the under five’s. Based on John 3: 16, the book has bold illustrations featuring a farm with animals. There are simple sentences that enable the message to be put across.
The message is one of sacrifice that depends not on us – on whether we are good or bad or what we do. It is all about Jesus and what He has done. The book is the perfect starting point for discussion and explanation on who Jesus is and of His great love for us. No one is ever too young to know about Jesus.
There are worksheets included with chants, a sign language accompaniment, colouring sheets and the Bible verse John 3: 16.
A simple book that is accessible for small children.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

This is a simple introduction to the concept of Jesus being the Lamb of God. Great for toddlers or preschoolers.
