The Irony of Everything brings you into a dystopian future world that happens to be the very last day the Earth will exist, for a comet is headed for the beautiful marble of a planet and will make impact within the hour. We experience its last moments from the perspective of a humbly conflicted man who sits upon a tree swing to watch the grand finale on a hill above his village. He awaits the end in solitude and ready for death … or so he thought.

About the Author

Leah Reise is a frontline health care professional, novelist, and writer who has a Bachelor’s of Spanish from Sonoma State University. She also completed additional undergraduate studies in anthropology at San Francisco State University, as social and biological sciences greatly influence her life and writing. Her first article, Open Letter to the People of Sonoma County, about social justice, was published in the Sonoma County Peace Press in August of 2000. The Beauty in Darkness trilogy: A Vampire Story published in 2016, A New Race published in 2020, and the final sequel as a work in progress, is her first novel series. The Irony of Everything is one of her latest short stories that was the Grand Prize Winner in the Dystopian category of SOOP’s 1st Annual Short Story contest in 2021, which will be included in SOOP’s upcoming release of a compilation of the short story winners.
