‘The Pin’ By Katy Bream

Poppy and her mom move to the middle of nowhere for her mom’s job. They move quite frequently, and Poppy’s used to it, but also bitter from leaving her friends so often. About a day in, she notices their neighbor acting strange. She hears bird squawks almost every night and sees him attacking a white dove through her bedroom one night. One day her curiosity gets the better of her and she decides to fake being sick to investigate the man’s house. She sneaks in his house and finds a room with dead birds pinned to the wall in rows. She lets the most recent one go, which is still alive, but then the old man gets home. In a panic, she hides in the closet, but the man finds her and ends up pinning her to the wall as well.
