‘Lucky ‘ By Madison Vernon

“Lucky” is an episodic narrative that follows a man, Lucky/Leslie Staines, who struggles with his desire to provide for his family and his desire to have a traditional family structure. Taking place in Belize, a small Caribbean country, this story is rich with imagery of soft humid sunsets and scenes of wild jungle life. While the story focuses on Lucky, it is Karla, Lucky’s wife, who drives the story forward. The conflict between Karla and Lucky can be one that has roots in Lucky’s childhood. This story follows the fallout between Karla and Lucky as it deals with themes of family dynamics and the difficulty between navigating the individual and the collective.
