‘Hypostome’ By Nadine North

A breed of mechanical ticks is created by an authoritative government to prevent sedition. If a citizen behaves in any behavior deemed against the nation’s values, they are injected with their own personal tick that tracks them. A former scientist that helped create the ticks is closely watched by the government because of his unwillingness to continue his efforts once he found out the purpose of the project. In this story, he attempts to upend the restrictive system that he had unknowingly helped create.
