In the near future, after America botches the transfer away from oil to renewables, grievance driven rural areas break away to form separatist states who use captured urbanites as forced labor. For Tori Beth, it is like stepping back into a time machine to a world of no electricity and no indoor plumbing – and no way of knowing when she’ll see her family again. However, to even have that chance, she needs to survive first. Sometimes survival comes down acquiring a pound of sugar.
