‘The Discarded Knight ‘ By H.W Johnston

Alfred blamed himself for being brave after it costed him a friend. Twelve years later, he decides to be brave again which leads to him being allowed to leave his home since the age of four. His father is against it at first because he finds his son’s dwarfism and social issues appalling. Upon being allowed to go to school he runs into bullies and makes a friend. Its not until after school that his nerves are tested at the family butcher shop where his fear of blood takes hold. A mess is made and he is granted one last day of school. 
 
A fight with the same bullies as before to defend his friend leads to more embarrassment. When finally at home his father sends him to be forgotten in an asylum. Once within the weathered wall of the asylum he makes a friend, but only briefly when his father learns his hope has been restored. This leads to being sent to another dimension at the top of a cliff. He learns before hand that his friend, thought gone, is down in the mountain village below. There is also the need to save his other friend in the asylum. The climb tests his limits but when he makes it down he finds siblings he never new existed. It will take there help to compete in a worldwide jousting tournament hosted by their father and jailer. Alfred must win otherwise risk him and his family to be forgotten forever.
