‘The Bureau of Retired Spells & Broken Magic’ By Gerald Dean Rice

TBRSBM is about two inspectors in Detroit whose job it is to secure magical items that no longer or never did work the way they are supposed to. Magic is an everyday occurrence that almost everyone uses from preparing lunch to assassinating a rival. Inspectors Contiga and Smith arrest a man on the roof of his apartment building who is attempting to ‘spellcast’ or summon a tremendous amount of power and he dies suddenly while in their custody. They have 24 hours to clear themselves and while investigating they discover there is someone who is using magic on a level unheard of.
