‘Straight to the Core of turning 30’ by Jessica Kopach

Ok, back to the day of waking up, listening to Adele’s, Hello song on repeat crying, relating it to Corey and I’s shaken love life, I got out of the house and drove to a few meetings that day. i remember driving and thinking to myself, I am happy. I am happy with myself, for once in my life and it’s all on my own. It was weird to feel just pure happiness and I remember it so distinctly. After a long day, I remember feeling so exhausted… finally got into bed to netflix and chill. I began scrolling through my Facebook feed, a mutual friend of Corey and I posted “Another good one gone”, sad news to see, so of course I scroll down to see if it was someone I knew. Corey’s old boss posted the last comment, “what happened to Corey!?” My heart immediately sank,I texted Corey, hear nothing. I called Corey and his phone went straight to voicemail. My heart sank even more. I called Ricky our mutual best friend and asked him if something happened…. he said he hadn’t heard anything…but he would call me if he found anything out. I had slight relief knowing Ricky didn’t have any bad news to share.5 minutes later, Ricky called back, dead silence on the other end. “I don’t know how to tell you this, Jess” Ricky began, “Corey passed away late last night.” My heart shattered, I couldn’t breath.
