‘Sparks’ by Finley Chow

Brian is the definition of an ordinary teenage boy. Waking up in the middle of the desert and being forced to reach civilization all by himself? Completely normal. Discovering that he can control fire without being burned? Piece of cake. At least that’s what he thinks. Because he can’t remember a thing. Unfortunately for Brian, all of his burning questions are forced to take a backseat when an attempt is made on his life the moment he makes it to safety. He only escapes alive when a girl named Amanda literally comes crashing into his life, saving him from his attackers. Amanda has a similar ability to Brian, using water as a weapon almost as deadly as her sarcasm. Although she reveals that she knows Brian, she only manages to create more questions instead of providing answers. Her primary goal is to keep the two of them alive. Brian and Amanda are attacked time after time, forcing them to run to stay safe. But Brian can’t help but dwell on unanswered questions. Who is he really? Why is he worth killing? Why won’t Amanda tell him anything? And what is she keeping from him? As Brian discovers more about himself and his dark past, he can’t help but wonder what sort of nightmare he stepped into. But he quickly learns that the nightmare is all too real.
