‘The Man Who Owned the Moon’ by Alicia Caballero

My story is a fable about a poor villager living in a time when the moon was always full. He is dissatisfied with his life and believes money is the key to his happiness, so he claims ownership of the moon. He begins selling off pieces of “his” moon to others and makes his fortune. However, it soon becomes apparent that his actions are causing the moon to disappear. He realizes the error of his ways and begins making restitution. The moon slowly becomes full again, but now forever goes through phases of darkness to serve as a reminder.
