Something Or Other Publishing is thrilled to introduce Bruce Koerber, author and creator of the Divine Economy Theory.
Bruce Koerber is an economist with a visionary approach to economic theory, blending traditional principles with innovative concepts rooted in classical liberalism and Austrian economics. His journey into writing began in 2005 when he sought a way to finance an after-school virtues program for children, which led to the creation of the Divine Economy Model. This groundbreaking model, inspired by a vivid dream, integrates economics with deeper philosophical and spiritual insights, reflecting Koerber’s unique perspective on the harmony of science and religion.
As the creator of the Divine Economy Theory, Koerber has authored several influential books, including his seminal works on macroeconomics, microeconomics, ethical economics, and economic justice. His writings emphasize the importance of subjectivism as a scientific methodology, advocating for a more holistic and human-centered approach to economic analysis. Through his work, Koerber invites readers to critically examine the interplay between liberty, justice, and spiritual purpose in the realm of economics, challenging conventional wisdom and offering a profound alternative to mainstream economic thought.
SOOP: When did you start writing?
Bruce Koerber: I began writing, as a craft, as an economist, in 2005.
SOOP: What inspired you to write your first book?
Bruce Koerber: Two things happened almost simultaneously. I came to the realization that I needed capital to start an after-school virtues school for 8–10-year-olds. Then I had a dream, and an image appeared to me. As an economist in the classical liberalism tradition, I recognized that the image was a significant contribution to economic science. I thought, naively, that if I wrote an economics book about the depth of meaning contained in the image that I would then have the capital that I needed.
SOOP: What was the most challenging part of writing for you?
Bruce Koerber: The most challenging part for me always was the reading and research. I knew what I was looking for, but I needed to arrange everything in order, and tell the story logically. I set myself a goal to have all my research done between December 1st and March 1st. Then I used the potency of the Baha’i Fast, nineteen days of fasting, to focus and refine my writing. This is the same pattern I used for each book.
SOOP: How would you describe your ideal reader?
Bruce Koerber: My ideal reader is someone who values critical thinking and is on the path of independent investigation of the truth. These characteristics make them appreciators of the harmony of science and religion, and willing seekers after the complements of liberty and justice. They are not fooled by the barrage of propaganda.
SOOP: What genres do you personally like to read?
Bruce Koerber: I like the plethora of contributions to Austrian economics, and I like entrepreneurial stories. I enjoy reading about healthy lifestyles and marketing strategies.
SOOP: What is your favorite underrated book?
Bruce Koerber: The Kitab-i-Aqdas by Baha’u’llah.
SOOP: Do you have any projects/upcoming events in the works?
Bruce Koerber: I am doing a YouTube series where I select a profound point from the divine economy theory and show it in action using a story, then I ask a question about it, and give a ‘take away’ thought. So far I have 17 episodes but this series will be going on for many years since there is a lot of content in these four books about macroeconomics, microeconomics, ethical economics and economic justice.
SOOP: What do you hope readers take away from your books?
Bruce Koerber: That the correct scientific methodology for economics is subjectivism. That modeling using the methodology of subjectivism makes it possible to describe purposeful action by spiritual beings, in other words, it is causal/ realistic mirroring the true nature and character of us humans.
SOOP: Is there any particular quote from a book, movie, or other source that resonates deeply with you?
Bruce Koerber: Quoting ‘Abdu’l-Baha: “When the love of God is established, everything else will be realized. This is the true foundation of all economics. Reflect upon it.”
SOOP: What is your advice for aspiring authors?
Bruce Koerber: Be open to your intuition and to metaphysical aspects of life. Write with passion.
