Something Or Other Publishing is proud to introduce Sameen Azmat, a creative writer and winner of the 1st Prize in the Motivational & Inspirational category of our 1st Annual Short Story Contest.

Sameen is nearing the end of her medical education and will soon be a doctor. Since it is difficult to have two professions together, her prime career focus is medicine, but writing has always been her passion. She has written many poems and short stories and typically likes to keep them low-profile. However, her story ‘Between Life and Death’ won first prize in the Motivational & Inspirational category in the first annual short story competition held by SOOP, becoming the first time her work has been published in a book to mainstream audiences.

“Between Life and Death” isn’t just a story; it is a bitter and relatable reality. It portrays the harshness of life through the chaotic mind of a young girl whose decisions pulled her in unexpected directions. But in the end, it teaches us a beautiful, heartwarming lesson that can reach anyone striving to find purpose in their life but seeing all dead ends.

Jesus E. Bracho, SOOP’s Director of Marketing, sat down with Sameen to learn more about her writing journey: 

J.B: What inspired you to write your short story?

S.A: I’ve been told by my friends how good of a writer I am and that I should write more often! So it drove me to try writing a short story in hopes of making them proud and also, to assess my own story writing skills. 

J.B: What was the most challenging part of writing your story?

S.A: The time. I was due to give my second professional exam of MBBS in a few weeks, so I needed more time to focus solely on the story.

J.B: What genres do you personally like to read? 

S.A: Fiction, Non-fiction, Mystery and Novels.

J.B: Do you have any other writing projects in the works? 

S.A: Not currently, but I wish to publish my own book in the nearest future.

J.B: Who is your target audience?

S.A: Anyone and everyone! My story is literally for everyone, whether they think it is or not because often, we forget the lesson it gives. So I want it to prevail as a reminder for all the readers for the rest of their lives.

J.B: What do you hope readers take away from your story?

S.A: Motivation. I hope to give the readers enough inspiration through my story to keep going and never lose hope, for life is beautiful and worth living. 

J.B: Do you have any advice for aspiring authors? 

S.A: Never stop believing in yourself! Follow the motto: Believe you can and you will.
