Author Profile: Roberta Azzopardi

Something Or Other Publishing is proud to introduce Roberta Azzopardi, a creative force and winner of the 3rd Prize in the Fantasy Category of our 1st Annual Short Story Contest.

Roberta Azzopardi, creative writer.

Roberta Azzopardi’s love for literature and the written word goes back to her childhood, penning mystery stories after consuming the one too many Nancy Drew novella.

Throughout the years, this calling never abandoned her, as she sought to refine her writing through formal writing courses and assignments and dabbled in different mediums to express herself. Her blog, words.com.mt, was set up to reach a wider audience through her writing of short stories, opinion pieces, and reflections. Roberta lives in Malta with her husband and son.

Roberta’s award-winning story, Liana & The Seventh Spin, will become her first published work, and it’s part of SOOP’s upcoming anthology titled “Winners: A Compilation of Award-Winning Short Stories.” Her story follows a house by the sea that never ages, and the villagers fear the eternal dwelling that exists like a fly in an amber stone, but a girl, who dreams of a better life than the one offered in her tiny community, is lured by it. When she finds a strange object on her eighteenth birthday while working in the fields, the house calls to her, and she answers, full of hope and dread. What she discovers in the timeless house by the sea will change her life over and over again.

Jesus E. Bracho, SOOP’s Director of Marketing, sat down with Roberta to engage in a fun Q&A session to learn more about her writing journey:

JB: What inspired you to write “Liana & The Seventh Spin”?

RA: I had a fixed idea of a house standing by the sea that never aged. I wanted to know why that was the case and why everyone feared it. In the end, Liana became a manifestation of my love for history and fantasy.

JB: What was the most challenging part of writing the story?

RA: Getting to grips with time travel.

JB: What genres do you personally like to read?

3rd Prize in the Fantasy Category of SOOP’s 1st Annual Short Story Contest. (SOOP)

RA: Historical Fiction & Fantasy

JB: Do you have any other writing projects in the works?

RA: Yes, I’m currently in my second draft of a novel based in Renaissance Florence, and I’m currently in the initial stages of working on an anthology of writings centered around the theme of motherhood which I’m co-authoring with other writers.

JB: Who is your target audience?

RA: Anyone with a love for Fantasy and History.

JB: What do you hope readers take away from your story?

RA: Wonder and a sense of contentment.

JB: Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

RA: Whatever you do, never stop writing! Your words will have readers – it might take some time to gain them, but they will come too 😊 Keep writing, seek feedback & believe in it!
