Today I was fortunate to be a part of Sauk City Library’s Local Author Event! The library had a great turnout! There were 7 local authors, myself included, and we each had the opportunity to share our books, our backgrounds, and our publishing stories. Thank you to the Sauk City Library staff for hosting the event and for inviting me to be a part of it! – Meredith Mast

Meredith Mast was born in Bermuda and spent most of my childhood in Miami, FL. She moved to Houston, Texas, at the age of 16 to dance with the Houston Ballet.
She published her first book, Willow Rose Learns Honesty, with SOOP in 2018. She has been spreading the news of her book by reading at elementary schools and dancing the story within her ballet school, Storybook Ballet.
She and her mother, Marvia Korol, decided to collaborate and create a series of children’s books that could, initially, be danced within her ballet school. Each story would not only lend itself to movement, but the story would incorporate a message or a virtue.
What inspired her to write your first book? – At her ballet school, they read fairytales within their classes for 3-6-year-olds. She and her mother decided to write their OWN stories- stories that incorporated a virtue such as honesty, patience, kindness, etc- but that also tied in imagination and movement. The stories would be colorful, concise, and have a clear message. They feel that with dancing, telling the story, and acting out the virtue- their students will gain a better understanding of the virtue.
The message in their book that they want readers to grasp…They hope that children will grasp the importance of telling the truth….!
