#MarketingMonday with SOOP: The Importance of Author Blogs

Whether you’re a budding author or a seasoned professional, developing a robust blog is an important way to connect with your readers. However, many authors miss the boat on this very simple step. Don’t be one of them.

Today we’ll discuss why having an author blog is important, next week we’ll share ideas on what to write about, and we’ll conclude a week later with important tips to make your author blog stand out.

Are you ready?

The importance of blogging:

The main purpose of having an author website/blog is to pull in readers and give them a hub to learn about you and your books. Seems simple, doesn’t it? The concept is all well and good, but if you’re not blogging frequently, no one will stumble upon your site. Trust me. We’ll get into details of SEO in a later blog, but for now, let’s talk about why the simple act of blogging alone makes an impact.

It all comes down to relevance and authority.

If your site sits stagnant, all the great algorithms set out by search engines like Google will start to bury you in the results. In the worst case scenario, it happens even if your blog’s information matches perfectly to a query. This means you’ve lost your authority and relevance on the subject you’re passionate about. You don’t want that to happen, right? In fact, you want to stand out and be noticed for the phenomenal story you’re working on. We want that for you, too.

We recommend to all authors that they try to blog at minimum of once a week, and ideally as much as three times. For some, this may seem like a lot, but the efforts are worth it and will pay off with more site traffic – which translates to more potential readers. One perk you may not even realize: writing on a frequent basis (regardless of where) gives your brain the muscles it needs to keep writing. And what author doesn’t want that?

For an example of how to manage your author blog/site the right way, visit SOOP author Eric Mondschein’s website. He does a phenomenal job at staying relevant and current. Not to mention, his pearls of wisdom are very inspiring.

Stay tuned for next week’s #MarketingMonday with SOOP!
