‘The Easy Approach to Speed Training’ by Raymond Tucker
This is a great book for any coach, parent, or athlete looking for an easy to understand approach to linear speed training. This book will cover the proper body position and mechanics for acceleration from a three-point stance for the 40-yard dash, starting blocks for the 100 meters, and proper sprinting mechanics. There are several different static stretches, and dynamic warm routines out there, and speed drills that promise to improve your speed and this can get very confusing. I will cover the basic static stretches, the proper dynamic warm up and speed drills to get the results that you are looking for. I will also address the proper explosive movements and strength training exercises to increase your acceleration, coordination, and speed. Once you have learned the basics, you will need to learn how to put it all together I will discuss the basic principles to design your speed program. Finally, I will discuss the proper recovery strategies that I have found to be very effective in preparing your body for the next day’s workout, a good night’s sleep, and the results you want.
