‘Stumbleton’ by Jessica Evans

Faced with a cross country drive from Texas to the north-east, Keith is sure that he’s going to propose to Katie once they reach Maine. Katie has recently interviewed for a new position in Louisiana and has failed to tell Keith about the interview or the prospect of moving. Nearly out of gas, they stop in a run-down holler in Tennessee. There, Katie meets a woman who drastically alters her perception of what is important and what is less than worthy of her attention. Meanwhile, Keith is coming to terms with the fact that he’s still in love with his ex-girlfriend, Jenn. Somewhere along the drive, he decides that Katie is not the one, and plans to end things with her once they return to Austin. However, at the wedding in Maine, Keith is prompted to divulge his feelings on ending their relationship. Ever the professional, Katie takes it in stride and leaves for Austin alone. Keith is left to pick up the pieces of his life.
