‘It’s Not Life Or Death (A Layperson’s Experiences with the World of Personal Investing)’ by Steve Garone

I have been working on this book for a few years, and am interested in completing the project and publishing it. The title of the book refers to the typical financial adviser business model, which attempts to mimic that of doctors and criminal lawyers (who truly deal with “life and death”), but I see as a privilege that is largely undeserved. I should state at the outset what this book is NOT a guide to investing. It instead shares with those would are new to the investment world – and also those who have lived in that world for a while and are having difficulty figuring out why they are so dissatisfied with their financial advisers and the results they achieve – my experiences and those of others I know working with professionals in this area and how to deal with the financial and emotional issues that grow out of their investment activities. One reading this book will be struck by how little it sounds like what they would hear from an investment professional – that makes sense because (1) I’m not an investment professional, and (2) the book will be “contrarian” in many ways. I’ll close with the title of one chapter: “My Least Favorite 4 Letter Words”. Those words are “Long term”. I challenge you to figure out what that chapter is about.
