‘Disorderly Life: Living with and Recovering from PTSD’ by Denita Stevens

You see the headlines, the statistics, the suicide rate, the awareness campaigns that get the letters P.T.S.D. out there. But there’s more to it. It’s a fire that ravages the soul and it can and will eventually consume all that is good as long as it’s left untreated or improperly treated. This memoir will cover 24 years of living with and recovering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It dives into the heart of how the trauma of being raped at the age of 16 catapulted me into a life I no longer recognized. The internal conflict that drives the destructive behavior that I experienced for many years living with undiagnosed & mistreated PTSD will be exposed through stories and journal entries. All of which were written when I was still trying to fight my way out of the death grip that PTSD had on me and I was still struggling to find treatment that was unsuccessful. It will follow my journey of finally discovering, through my own research, a type of therapy that reprocesses trauma and finding a therapist trained in this technique that I credit with saving my life.
