‘4th and Long’ by Alexander Brooks

4th and Long is a suspenseful sports novel set in Tampa, Fl. It focuses on division-one bound senior quarterback, Deonte Rodriguez and his journey to bring a third consecutive state title to Longwood High School. Along the way, he must overcome a blatantly racist head coach whose goal is to destroy Deonte’s post high school football chances, an attention seeking love interest, dirty college recruiting tactics, an absentee father looking to cash in on his son’s pro potential, and a few jealous teammates looking to sabotage him. Overcoming these obstacles proves extremely necessary as Deonte is using football as a way to get his mother and two older sisters out of their impoverished situation. In a roller coaster season, Deonte and his family will truly discover the meaning of “4th and Long” as it relates to life and not just football. Tagline (hook) – “Crunch time is more than what happens on the field.” Logline- “A superstar quarterback attempts to lead his team to a state title while overcoming a racist head coach, poverty, and an absentee father.” Hollywood Jargon- He Got Game meets Varsity Blues
