It’s Halloween!!!!! Ok, it’s not Halloween. It’s only October 8, which is 23 whole days until Halloween, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited, right? I mean, Halloween as a cultural phenomenon should appeal to the writer in all of us. It’s one of the most mysterious times of the year. Witches, vampires, werewolves, clowns, and all number of different characters appear for a night. So much of modern literature is centered on what reality would be if these creatures walked among us the other 364 days a year. But more than the monsters, Halloween, before it was Halloween as we know it today, was considered a time when the human world was closest to Other Realms. And if that’s not one of the coolest inspirations I don’t know what is.
But now that we have my mounting excitement for this time of year out of the way, some announcements.
For all those interested, the new forum topic is “Wishful Thinking,” in which you have the chance to discuss the things that you wish you could change about your life as a writer. Now, we would never give up that part of our lives, but certainly there would be something. Maybe a new editor, or an editor at all. Perhaps you wish you had access to a certain tool, or opportunity. Tell us! Maybe someone else has a tip. Â Â
